The successful Qing Dynasty kiln re-burning in Jingdezhen makes the new Guinness World Record

  In October, the golden autumn, there was a grand celebration in Jingdezhen, for nearly 20,000 pieces of porcelain was fired with pine firewood at the high temperature of up to 1320 ℃ in the Qing Dynasty Town Kiln with the history of nearly three hundred years, and after over 20 hours of firing, they at last showed up in the morning on October 22, 2009. CCTV’s “Zheng Da Variety Show”— the on-site program of “Guinness Records” witnessed and announced the birth of a new Guinness World Record, which proved again to the world that Jingdezhen’s ancient kiln folk-custom exposition zone had created another miracle of ceramic historical relics preservation and cultural heritage. It is also a sign of our national prosperity and another achievement made by the great development of cultural and creative industries in Jingdezhen. Many leaders attended this witness show, including Li Fang, the Vice Secretary of Municipal Committee and mayor, Feng Linhua, the Municipal Standing Committee Member and vice mayor, Ma Yuling, the Municipal Standing Committee Member and the head of publicity administration, Wang Ligeng, the Municipal Committee Standing Member and Chief of the United Front Work Department, and Chen Changgeng, the deputy director of the Municipal People’s Congress. In addition, Ma Weidu, the cultural celebrity and famous connoisseur of ancient ceramics also attended this activity.
 
  Ma Yuling announced that the re-burning of Qing Dynasty town kiln in Jingdezhen had been successful. The Global Certification Officer of Guinness British Headquarters, Dr. Wu Xiaohong announced the confirmation of this porcelain firewood kiln which had been the oldest and largest remains with the top porcelain production so far.
 
  In the morning of October 19, 2009, the re-burning ceremony of Qing Dynasty town kiln in Jingdezhen was grandly held. Led by of the old master Hu Jiawang who is the porcelain successor, all the kiln workers dressed in Qing Dynasty costumes and operated all the kiln processes in accordance with the Qing Dynasty patterns. Without the monitoring by any modern instruments, they depended on their sharp eyes to observe the temperature inside the kiln chamber, knowing well the heat control. They performed the firing by adding kiln firewood without a break for up to 23 hours, and spent 2 days cooling the kiln down.
 
  At 10 am or so, on October 22, 2009, the exciting moment arrived, a kiln-full porcelain of nearly 20,000 pieces brightly showed before people’s eyes, and the people present made their praise in the scene. After the on-site certification by the Guinness Records Witness officer of CCTV’s “Zheng Da Variety Show”, some experts commented these re-burned fine ceramics of the Qing Dynasty town kiln, including Mr. Ma Weidu, the head of Guanfu Museum and famous connoisseur of ancient ceramics, the Chinese arts and crafts masters Wang Longfu and Liu Yuanchang, and Zhou Ronglin, the researcher and expert of ancient Chinese ceramics. They said, “the porcelain products are completely the same as those made from the ancient firewood kiln in the ancient times, magnificent and elegant, which are rare ceramic treasures in the contemporary era, so they can be called the treasure and king of the porcelains”

  The great success of the re-burning of Qing Dynasty Town Kiln once again shows the hardworking and ingenuity of Jingdezhen people, which is the true portrayal of the endless succession of the kiln fire and the reproduction of the traditional porcelain-making techniques, becoming the model of preserving historical relics and cultural heritage.
